As Tilo meets the quirky villagers, he learns more about the dragon and some interesting lessons. Three brothers who refuse to take turns end up cooking a disgusting mixture of tomato soup, fish and scrambled eggs in their single pot. An old woman does not believe in rules hosts a children’s birthday party; her house is vandalized and most of her party guests have injured themselves. An energetic girl lives in a cottage that is missing half a roof, a few steps, and one window because she starts projects but never finishes them. The villagers all describe a terrible man-eating dragon, but nobody has actually seen the dragon eat a person. Even more curious, although the dragon is rumored to have eaten up to a hundred people, none of the villagers are missing. Tilo comes to believe that the dragon is a rumor. Tilo journeys to the top of the mountain to investigate, and find what is really terrorizing the town.
